Abstrak

Changes in the world are now entering the industrial revolution era 4.0, where technology has become a base in human life. This also affects the world of education, where education must respond quickly to these changes, one of which is by using technology in learning. This article was written aimed to see the ability to understand the concept and interest of students by using the STEM approach assisted by macromedia flash was seen from the initial ability. This research is an experimental research with quantitative approach and research design of One Group Pretest-Posttest. Samples were the fourth semester Mathematics Tadris students as many as 24 people. The instruments used were the initial ability test, pretest-posttest and questionnaire. Data analysis used are t-test and two-way ANAVA. Based on the results of the study some conclusions were obtained. First, the ability to understand the concept and interest of students increases after using the STEM approach. It can be seen from the average increase in the ability to understand the concept of high, medium and low ability students, are 0.68, 0.57 and 0.33. Students also look more interested when given learning using macromedia flash. The average interest of high, medium and low ability students are 0.27, 0.33 and 0.34. Second, there are an interaction between the initial ability and the approach in influencing the ability to understand the concept but there are no interaction between the initial ability and the approach in influencing student interest.
