Abstract
Purpose: This study seeks to mitigate the deficiencies in algebraic problem-solving skills among junior high school students, primarily attributed to the abstract nature of the subject matter. This is achieved through the development of an integratively designed Problem-Based Learning (PBL) worksheet augmented by Algebrator software. Design/methodology/approach: Adopting a Research and Development (R&D) framework, the study utilized the ADDIE model involving seventh-grade students at SMPN 150 Jakarta. Data were gathered through rigorous expert validation instruments and systematic student activity observation sheets. Findings: Empirical results indicate that the developed worksheet achieved high validity and feasibility ratings from experts. Statistics significantly enhancement in both student engagement and problem-solving proficiency. Furthermore, Algebrator proved highly effective in visualizing abstract concepts, thereby fostering deeper conceptual understanding. Practical implications: This research offers a robust digital instructional innovation for educators, providing a streamlined approach to deconstructing complex algebraic procedures for learners. Originality/value: The study’s primary contribution lies in its unique synergy between the PBL pedagogical framework and Algebrator’s computational capabilities, integrated into a single module to accelerate student autonomy in mathematical problem-solving.
