Abstract

This thesis aims to determine (1) the influence of GeMA learning and emotional intelligence on mathematical problem solving abilities of elementary school students, (2) the interaction of GeMA learning and emotional intelligence on mathematical problem solving abilities of elementary school students. This study used an experimental method with a 2 x 3 factorial design, based on the level of emotional intelligence (high-medium-low). The application of cluster random sampling from 3 classes of V SDN Tengah 08 Pagi Kramatjati East Jakarta, was obtained by VB class (experimental class) given GeMA learning and emotional intelligence and VC class (control class) who were given conventional learning. Data were obtained through emotional intelligence questionnaires and tests of students' mathematical problem solving abilities that had fulfilled validity and reliability. Data were analyzed through 2-way ANOVA with the help of SPSS 24. The results showed that: (1) there was the influence of GeMA learning and emotional intelligence on the mathematical problem solving abilities of elementary school students, (2) mathematical problem solving abilities of students who received GeMA learning better than conventional class students, (3) mathematical problem solving skills students who have high emotional intelligence are better than low emotional intelligence, (4) there is no interaction between GeMA learning and emotional intelligence on mathematical problem solving abilities of elementary school students. Mathematics learning must be student-centered by utilizing games, manipulatives, and activities, also integrating emotional intelligence in it.
